Culture is such a broad term that it can mean many things. This site focuses on the vast playground known as "pop culture" in both traditional and new media. The people who gravitate toward this information about cultural progress tend to be counter-culture or people looking to expand their cultural horizons. The website will open doors to new ideas about pop culture and how individuals can feel just as rewarded as participants in elevating independent culture. If you live in suburbia where every block has a cookie cutter look and every strip mall has the same logos that are heavily advertised on TV, chances are you need some indie relief with a dose of variety. Being trapped in corporate zones appeals mostly to young people who focuses on their jobs and families but don't have much time to explore culture, which is considered more of a hobby in America.

You'll notice that many people who watch too much TV all kind of say the same things by parroting what they digest from national television networks. While television is one of the greatest inventions of all time, its agenda is commercial-based, which is why shows come and go while the sponsors pretty much remain the same year after year. Many people still haven't learned that the programming is just filler to deliver commercials, which is how TV makes its money.

The iron curtain between big media networks and the audience continues to be firmly locked and bolted so that only a small group of people control the entire industry. If you plan on moving to Hollywood, alos plan on waiting tables or some other low-paying job to go with it, unless you have established a solid career or savings that allow you to make a smooth move that doesn't hurt your financial situation.

The concept of a nu pop culture eliminates Hollywood and giant companies from the equation, unless they ever decide to play by the nu rules. In the nu paradigm, indie biz is on top and corporations are at the bottom. That's just the way it works. Indie owners have the highest credibility as long as they set good examples of success for other entrepreneurs.

Obviously, most of the pop music of 2015 is garbage, which is the main reason you don't hear too much about it. Consequently, radio stations that play a lot of this major label trash are just as guilty by playing weak music in the first place, which has demolished many elements of modern culture. Another problem with most of today's radio is that it is usually too cost prohibitive for local business, so stations rely on national advertising (from corporations that promote unhealthy lifestyles).

The nu pop culture picks up where visionaries of the sixties and seventies left off. It marks a pursuit of happiness and a quest for enlightenment by learning as much as possible about the real world, which supporting art that has more inspiring depth than what is promoted in mainstream media. It includes shopping at organic food stores, seeking holistic health approaches, supporting sustainable living and attending community events that offer opportunities for helping others. It is a socially conscious movement, unlike the typical TV crowd that is stuck on a couch while glued to the tube, channel surfing endlessly to find one decent program worth watching.

As a doorway into creativity, the nu pop cuture includes inventing and sharing your own entertainment. Facebook and other social media networks have made it possible now to deliver messages to hundreds of people at once. Social networks, crowdfunding sites, cloud computing, email marketing software and modern computers all make it possible for people to create and fund their own film and music projects. In that sense, it's more of a hand-crafted revolution than cookie-cutter mass production.

A perfect example of nu pop culture is K-ZAP.org, which is a revival of Sacramento's legendary freeform rock station that lasted from 1968 through 1992 when it was on the radio at 98.5 FM. The station is run by a non-profit group and is heavily music-intensive. It's a mix of great classic rock and new music picked by the DJs. Another example is Etsy, which is an online marketplace for hand-crafted art.

While it's hard to learn much from the regular old formulaic mainstream choices, there's plenty of nutritional brain food to absorb from the indie world. That's the main difference between the corporate world and the indie world: indie biz can't accord to mass market mediocrity like big biz, so it has to rely on providing better information and entertainment.
